North Sea Observatory, Skegness

Main Contractor – Gelder Group

Value – £200,000

Hot Rolled Steel – 83 T

Cold Rolled Purlins/Rails – 10 T

Pre-cast concrete planks 45 t, a very challenging project, on the beach directly opposite an offshore windfarm we utilised a 5 axle mobile tower crane because the reach for a mobile crane was excessive and the crane position was below the site so the crane driver was able to look down on the site rather than work blind and using two way radios.

Value – £600,000

Hot Rolled Steel – 250 T

Pre Cast Concrete Planks 1000 Lifts/ 280t

The next phase of this challenging project again required precise planning and organisation, the structure was regarded as a new build but eventually connected to the existing building, the major problem with this phase was the first elevation was the boundary of the main Sheffield to Rotherham rail link but a close partnership between ourselves and network rail eradicated any issues with the crane-age and the erection of the frame, included in this phase was a 15 t piece small truss and ramps linking each level to the levels below.

We also erected 6 sets of stair housings around the existing building on Phase 1 and around the new build Phase 2.
